Following the incredible success of last year's showstopper, the epic Gunge Tank Challenge is making its glorious return as the outrageous on-campus finale of Futures Day!

On Wednesday 24 September at 3pm, this messy, crowd-favourite spectacle will see the most-nominated staff volunteers take the plunge into the slime to raise vital funds for our students.

Last year’s fearless gungees raised £2,178.75 for students facing financial hardship — and we’re aiming to beat that total this year and help more students!

Who will be gunged this year to raise vital funds for our students? You decide!

Here are the brave souls stepping up for the Gunge Tank Challenge! Follow the action and track who’s climbing (or slipping!) up the leaderboard!

Joe Butler-Moor, CCSU Union President

Hi, I’m Joe. I love fighting for what the students need and making sure everyone has the best experience at CCCU. Do you know what would really make my experience as Union President? You guessed it — being gunged! The SU made my time as a student great, and now you have the chance to improve my sabb life. Please vote for me to make my dreams come true.

Anthony Clarke SFHEA, Senior Lecturer — School of Social Work, Education and Teacher Education

“I am always keen to support students in worthy and important initiatives ranging from sponsored football matches to quiz nights and students have been brilliant in raising funds for important educational causes both here in the UK and abroad over the many years I have been at CCCU. This is my opportunity to say thank you and to help raise funds for students to maintain and support their studies as I really appreciate times are hard and such initiatives are so important. It is also fun, and I am sure students would love to see one of their longest-serving lecturers dunked in goo and slime and to get their own back for making them work hard in seminars!!”

Molly Davies, CCSU President (Student Life)

“Hi! I’m Molly, your president of student life at CCSU. Part of my role is helping people have a great time at sports and societies as well as the rest of student life, and I think one of the best ways to engage at CCCU is just to go for it and throw yourself into something! It's what I did when I was a student, and I had an amazing time! You should vote for me to be gunged because I would love to lead by example and show everyone why just going for it can be really fun! (even if the thing I’m going for is gunge!)”

Meg Devine, Student Opportunities Manager — Careers and Enterprise Hub

“I have had a front row seat to the amazing and tireless work my amazing colleagues in the fundraising team have done to launch our futures initiative. From working with our fantastic scholars, building relationships with our alumni donors and fundraising for the student pantry, it’s been inspirational and extremely worthwhile to see all they have achieved. To be a part of their endeavours to raise funds for our students — how could I not volunteer?! Plus… you know, I’m the head of volunteering, I do tend to volunteer for a lot 😊”

Why people should vote for me?

Don’t — vote for the others! 😝

Paul Driscoll-Evans, Dean of School — School of Nursing, Midwifery, Allied and Public Health

“I’ve volunteered for the gunge tank because it’s fun and light-hearted and a way to support a great cause. It’s all about raising money, bringing smiles, and showing I’m willing to get a bit messy for something meaningful. Plus, if it encourages others to donate or get involved — then it’s totally worth the slime!”

Alice Ford, International Student Ambassador

“I’ve volunteered for the Gunge Tank Challenge to do my part in raising money for an important cause. Vote for me, and together we can turn laughter into real impact for the students who need it most.”

Becky Huxley-Binns, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost

“Why did I volunteer? Rather ridiculous FOMO. Why should people vote for me? Who doesn’t want to see SMT gunged?”

Stephen Lamyman, Director of Global Engagement

“Hi, I'm Stephen, Director of Global Engagement and I'm supporting Futures Day to represent the ever-increasing members of our community from outside the UK. In the past 5 years our international students have contributed vibrancy, different cultures, languages and experiences as well as much more to our campus and city. I hope my willingness to ruin a 3-piece suit can pay some small homage to the faith they've shown in CCCU. Thank you.”

Emma Lawrence, CCSU President (Academic Life)

“Hi, I’m Emma, your president of academic life! I’m here to make sure your course here at Christ Church runs as smoothly as possible so you can focus on the important stuff (like gunge!). I’ve learnt so much during my time at CCCU, and the SU has done so much to make my experience amazing! There's just one more thing I haven't learned about yet: GUNGE! Please vote for me so I can finally complete my voluntary gunge module!”

Toby Lucas-Smith, Head of Development — Research, Enterprise and Innovation Services

“Why have I volunteered? It seemed like a great way to contribute to the fantastic fundraising activities on Futures Day. Also… three staff members told me I’d be a great candidate. I’m still trying to decide if that’s a compliment… Plus, I figure it’ll be a good laugh to get gunged too!”

Emily Moriarty, Mental Wellbeing Practitioner — Student Wellbeing and Support

“I've bravely (or foolishly) volunteered for the Gunge Tank Challenge, all in the name of a great cause! If you've ever wanted sweet revenge for those “have you tried mindfulness?” chats, now’s your moment. I've seen first-hand what a positive impact the money donated can have on our students and what better way to do this than see me covered in slime! So, if you've ever wanted to see someone from the Student Wellbeing team take one for the team... now's your chance. Let’s make a mess for a meaningful cause!”

Jon Opaye-Tetteh, Director of Equity and Inclusion

“University changed my life — and now I’m proud to support CCCU students as they define their futures. Vote to see me get gunged and help break down barriers to education!”

Jason Shirley, Operations Coordinator — Student Life and Library Services

“This provides us with a great opportunity to do something small but potentially make a huge difference to someone’s future and education. It’s important to support our students whenever we can. Considering all the events and activities I have put on or helped with over the years, I have always managed to escape the mess. Maybe it’s time to change that! Besides, a good number of my team asked if I would be doing this — not sure how to take that 😊!!”

Martin Southam, Senior Lecturer in Sport And Exercise Science

“Who doesn't want to gunge a Spurs fan? And a lecturer to boot - a double whammy! Either way, this is an opportunity to donate to an excellent cause in support of our wonderful students. These are challenging times and anything we can do to relieve a little pressure and help those who need support to reach their full potential is a positive step. Gunge me! “

Stephen Webb, Course Director — BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy; Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy

“The CCCU Futures programme is an excellent initiative which raises valuable funds to support students with their studies. It is a cause that resonates with me personally and there are many ways to support the good work. I am taking part in the Gunge Tank Challenge because I think it is a great fun way to raise awareness of the Futures programme and also presents an opportunity for my colleagues and students to see me getting gunged for a good cause. Please vote to see me get the gunge as all the money goes to support this important work.”

Mike Weed, Senior Pro Vice-Chancellor — Research, Enterprise & Business Development

“My assistant has signed me up as she thinks many staff would donate to see the Senior Pro Vice-Chancellor get gunged & the Futures initiative is an important cause to support. People should vote for me to be able to cheer a senior SMT member get covered in slime at the same time as contributing towards transforming the lives of students. Win/win!”
